Welcome back from Class 3! It was lovely to hear about the children’s Christmas break.  Our theme this term is ‘War and Peace’. In Literacy we will be covering poetry, information leaflets and letters linked to World War II. We will continue to send home ‘Big Write’ books. We would like to encourage parents to listen to their children read at home daily. At school the children take part in guided and whole class reading sessions. Our class book this term is ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’.

Spellings will be sent home in the children’s homework book and these will be tested weekly. In our Maths we will be using the scheme ‘Maths-No Problem’ together with ‘Big Maths’ and White Rose problem solving. The Big Maths will be sent home so that parents are able to see their child’s progress in arithmetic.

PE will focus on dance and indoor sports. In RE the children will be learning about Christian, Jewish and Hindu religions. In Science we will cover light and electricity. In ICT we will continue to develop the children’s use of the Purple Mash programmes in particular email the use of PowerPoint presentations. The children have their own login and there are lots of stories to read on Purple Mash.

In Music we will be appreciating a wide range of high-quality recorded music drawn from great composers of the war time years, including Glenn Miller.

In Geography we will be studying many aspects of human and physical geography, beginning with the children’s immediate local area and then moving onto the city of Hull, with reference to the Blitz bombings.

The homework will be a combination of maths and spelling. The children’s learning will be posted regularly on the website, Facebook and Twitter. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
